Winks and Ike   ELEVEN PUPS born 8-29-09
Due to a miscalculation on my part, Winks did most of the whelping of this litter on her own. True to her nature and following in her mama's footsteps, she had no problems and had the pups all clean, dry, safe and happy and the whelping area spic and span.  She only let me in on the last two, but all are well and strong.  Looking at little Trixie at the left, you can already see the nice coats, thick tail, great head and pigment on the litter.
The Lord has truly blessed us with some wonderful dogs and Winks is no exception.  She is such a capable and dedicated mom. I am always amazed at the abilities our Creator has given these creatures and am in awe of their displays of care and love.  Winks is busy giving the little ones baths at right.  In the picture below, I must give a disclaimer...we do not advocate forced segregation nor did I set this picture up! It cracked me up to see only the yellows nursing at this particular time! Almost as if they were taking shifts!  Note that Winks has already started bringing them toys as her favorite ball is there in the pen.

Sadie already has ALL ELEVEN puppies named and you'll be seeing more of each of them in the weeks to come.  Below we have Kelsey (purple), Blair (green),   and Ian (red).

Meet the Litter!
Here's the whole gang at two weeks old.  Mom also celebrated a birthday this week and turned four years old on Thursday!  (9-10)
We're just beginning to get glimpses of those little eyes opening and they can smell Winks coming from a mile away!! : )

These little guys are growing so quickly.  They are active and alert and ready to start eating this week. Winks has done a phenomenal job keeping up with eleven pups and all of them are gaining weight daily.  They have started investigating the toys in the pen and are  interacting with one another. I don't imagine it will be too long before they are venturing out of the whelping pen.  They have already begun looking over the edge for mama and trying to climb the slippery sides.  Hard to believe there's only one more week and they'll have their first visitors.
Four Weeks Old
The babies are eating real puppy mush with gusto now and they line up around the bowl like perfect ladies and gentlemen.  They have started to play with one another and we've moved them from the guest room into the living room to make them more a part of the everyday activities of the household.  I had wanted to take them outside for their first outing, but it has been so hot here.  It's supposed to cool down this week so we'll get to venture outside for some fresh air and some romping outside.
It doesn't seem to matter where I put these puppies, Sadie finds a way to take a nap with them!!  They all recognize her voice when she enters the room.

Six Weeks
These last two weeks go way too quickly as the babies grow and  change almost daily.  They are so much fun at this age and though my family battled the flu this past week, the pups have given us joy and comfort. They are little blessings sent straight from God.  Big week ahead as they have their first vet visit, meet the eye doctor and get their microchips.

Below are some candid shots of the gang.  Notice Storm in his favorite sleeping spot with his head hanging out of the dog house in several shots.  Nobody sleeps in his spot!  Kelsey found the end of her collar to chew on and from the looks of it, it's not too tasty!  We have Blair on the alert (as always!)  with no collar and again with dirt on her nose just like Storm.  The two of them would have a hard time pleading innocent to the digging: ) They have a delightful time exploring the yard and we have been blessed with beautiful fall weather .
...and to all a good night!
Extended Family
Each new litter grows our extended family as we meet the new owners and get to watch as the puppies grow and become loved members of their new households.  I have been blessed many times over by sharing the joy these little ones add to lives all over the US.  I never tire of hearing stories of these babies, sharing the laughs at their antics and feeling the warmth of knowing that the Lord has allowed me some small part of making these pups a part of someone else's family. May God go with each of you! :)
